Water Charges were first scheduled to begin in Ireland from 1st October 2014 – but after many protests and public pressure the government delayed the charges until January 1st 2015 . Several other changes were made to the “agreed” charging plan .
There was much controversy and protest about charging for water and about Irish Water , the state owned company set up to run water services in Ireland. In 2016 the Water Charges were suspended – and they remain suspended until January 2018.
