BOI to Ditch Laser for Visa Debit Cards

The future of the Laser card isn’t looking great – now that Bank of Ireland have  announced they will be moving to Visa Debit cards  in 2011.
Halifax were the first to offer Visa Debit cards in Ireland – and they were soon followed by Ulster Band and more recently PTSB.

BOI will begin sending replacement Visa debit cards to it’s customers in the third quarter of 2011.
The Visa Debit card is accepted anywhere that accepts Visa Credit cards – so the move will give BOI  customers greater access to international purchases and online shopping.
It means that people who may not qualify for , or who may not want a credit card – can shop online at many more sites than they could with a laser card.
