ESB – or Electric Ireland got some bad publicity earlier this month when they announced electricity price cuts for most customers – but not for those in arrears.
They have now changed the rules – and some discounts are available to customers in arrears .
The ESB Price Cuts of around 12% are available if people pay by direct debit and go paperless . Social welfare recipients in arrears who entered payment plans could also avail of discounted rates, but others in arrears could not.
Now – some price cuts are available to people in arrears who have meters installed and those who enter into instalment payment plans to deal with arrears.
The discount for non-social welfare recipients in arrears is about 6 per cent – but if arrears are cleared the range of discounts available will increase.
