Bord Gais still have their prices regulated by the Energy Regulator – and they have recently applied for a 7.54 % increase in their residential gas tariffs from October.
A 7.54% rise would add about €65 to the average household’s annual gas bill.
In 2011 Bord Gais increased residential gas prices by 22% – but they say that domestic gas prices in the Republic are still below the EU average.
The exact gas price increase will be confirmed in early September.
It is likely that other energy companies – Flogas , Airtricity , Electric Ireland — will also increase gas prices by a similar amount once Bord Gais increase is confirmed.
In the meantime – you can see our page on who has the lowest gas prices in Ireland here
Bord Gais are blaming most of the increase on a weak euro – it buys virtually all of its gas from Britain .
