Household Charge Costs €6 million to administer

Figures supplied by Phil Hogan (Minister, Department of Environment, Community and Local Government) – show that the cost of administering the Household Charge is expected to be around €6 million in 2012.

He told the Dail that the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) administers the household charge system on a shared service/agency basis for all county and city councils.
The Local Government Management Agency estimates the  projected cost of administering the household charge in 2012 is €6,033,052.
Of this – the online aspect amounts to €1.5 Million – while the manual  aspect of the household charge is expected to cost  €4,492,410.

There are probably other costs incurred by Local Authorities too – in dealing with application forms and queries. These figures have not been quantified.

So far – about 950 thousand homes are registered for the household charge – bringing in around  90 million Euro in 2012 .
