You will no longer hear those words “regulated by the Financial Regulator” at the end of radio ads for banks . The websites and documents of all the Irish financial institutions will also need changing too. (Some of them have already started the changes) As from today – financial regulation will be carried out by the “Central Bank of Ireland Commission“.
This new agency replaces the the current board structure of the Central Bank and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority.
Brian Lenihan said the new structure would be a “single fully integrated regulatory institution” for the financial sector.
Two new roles will be created in the Commission, that of head of financial supervision and a head of central banking.
Former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England Sir Andrew Large is advising the Irish Government on the recruitment process.
