Consumers will usually try and find the lowest prices on mobile phone services – but maybe price is not the only factor you should consider when choosing a mobile network provider. Coverage is very important – as is the level of customer service.
Comreg keep a record of all the complaints made to them about mobile service providers in Ireland – and there are big differences in the levels of complaints about the various providers.
When we look into complaint numbers – we don’t just look at the total number of complaints – we look at the rate of complaints per 100,00 customers which makes it easier to compare
The mobile provider with the current highest complaint rate is Eir. In the 6 months up to April 2018 – Eir had a complaint rate of 13.5 per 100,000 customers. This is not a massive rate – but it is almost four times higher than the complaints rate about Vodafone and is an increase of around 15% since the start of 2017.
Tesco Mobile had the second highest rate of complaints to Comreg – with 8.5 per 100,000 customers.
Three had a complaint rate of 4.5 per 100,000.
Vodafone had the lowest rate of mobile related complaints with 3.5 per 100,000 customers.
Complaints about provider’s mobile coverage are included in the figures above – but Comreg figures show that Tesco had double the rate of complaints compared to Eir Mobile and Three . Tesco had four times the rate of complaints about coverage compared to Vofafone (In the first quarter of 2018).
