NCT Testing dates changes introduced as a result of the COVID 19 situation.
- NCT –vehicles with a test that was due on or after 28 March 2020 now have had the test date extended by 4 months .
- Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Tests (CVRT). Vehicles with a test that was due on or after 28 March have had that test date extended by 3 months.
- Driving licenses due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 inclusive have had their date of expiry extended by 4 months.
- Learner Permits. Those due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 inclusive have had their date of expiry extended by 4 months.
- Driver Theory Test certificates due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 inclusive have had that date extended by 4 months.
- Certificates of Competency. Certs issued when people pass a driving test and required when applying for a first full driving licence. Those due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 inclusive have had that date extended by 4 months .
- Initial Basic Training certificates for motorcycle learners due to expire between 1 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 inclusive have been extended by 4 months.
It is not necessary (temporarily) to have a current NCT cert to tax your car. Also – it is no longer necessary to have a current Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) in order to tax a commercial vehicle.
Car Insurance firms should treat licences and NCTs covered by these measures as valid for the extended period.
NCT services were suspended during the COVID-19 emergency.
Any NCT that was due between 28 March and 30 June is extended for 4 months. This means that if your car was due for an NCT on 1 June, your NCT is now due on 1 October 2020.

If your car was due for its NCT before 28 March, you can now book for a test.
