A new Passport Card is now available in Ireland for anyone that already has a passport. The idea of this credit card sized passport is to make it an easier to carry option and less prone to getting damaged. It will be handy for younger people to use as ID when required in pubs/clubs etc.
The passport card will cost you €35 and it is valid for 5 years (or until your main passport expires if that is less than 5 years) . It does not replace the full passport – it is just a more portable version of it.
You need a full passport in order to apply for a passport card and you must be 18 or over.
The passport card can be used on flights in the EU only , it cannot be used for travel anywhere else in the world.
