The Property Tax 2018 liability date was November 1st 2017. If you owned a residential property on that date – then you will be liable for the Property Tax on it for the whole of 2018.
If you are planning on paying your 2018 Local Property Tax in full by cash, cheque, postal order, credit card or debit card. – the payment deadline was the 10th January 2018
If you wanted to change your payment method for 2018, you should have amended you LPT record online and confirmed the new payment method by 24th November 2017.
If you wish to pay the tax in full, in a single payment – you should have confirmed that by the 10th January 2018.
Note: Single Debit Authority payments will be deducted from bank accounts on or around 21st March 2018:
For all of the 700,000 or so owners that paid the 2017 LPT by Direct Debit or by deduction at source – that method of payment will continue automatically for 2018. There will be no need for these people to complete any forms etc. (Unless they want to change their method of payment).
If owners were exempt in 2017 – and nothing has changed – then the exemption carries on through 2018.
If you are one of the people (about 1million) who paid the 2017 LPT in a lump sum from your bank account or by credit card or debit card , or by cheque or cash or by installments in the Post Office etc – you will need to confirm your payment method again for 2018.
Revenue sent out letters during October 2017 to those people who paid by lump sum – to ask them to confirm their payment option again for the 2018 Property Tax .
A payment instruction form (LPT1a) will be included with this letter only for about 300,000 people (i.e. those who filed by paper last year) . The rest of the owners will be expected to confirm payment methods for 2018 online.
About 30,000 notifications will also issue to Revenue Online mail boxes.
The LPT Helpline is 1890 200 255 .– See alternative to 1890 number here –
LPT Online can be accessed here
The good news is – that the original LPT valuations that were filed back in 2013 are still valid for 2018 – so you don’t have to go through the valuation process again. The LPT valuation band you selected for 2013 stays the same until November 2019 (Unless you think it was wrong.).
If you live in an area where the Property Tax for 2018 is different to the 2017 rate – you will get a letter confirming the new rate if you pay by deduction at source or direct debit .

Note that if you bought your home in 2013 you are still exempt from the Property Tax until 2019 – see more about that here
