In line with the National Payments Plan, the Department of Social Protection is trying to reduce the number of payments they make by cheque
Up to now casual workers have always been paid their social welfare payments by cheque. They then have to lodge the cheque into to their bank accounts or negotiate at bank or post office counters.
Obviously- this causes a delay for the claimant in getting their benefit and it has extra costs of postage and/or bank processing time.
The majority of the Department’s customers who are paid by cheque choose to lodge them direct to their bank accounts.
The Department od of Social Protection have announced that they are now offering these claimants the option of being paid directly into their bank accounts.
